I sent this out to my team members at both sites and my Dream Team, but just to update the blog readers:
Please send prayers for Ollie. He is 14 and has his first job babysitting a friend of ours. The little boy will be 9 in a couple of months. Anyhow, today was his 2nd time babysitting and I got a call from the mother that the boys had called 911. Ollie had cut himself on some glass and it was bad enough to call 911. I rushed to get there before the ambulance took him. The little boy went to push a paned glass door shut, my son was coming through so he put out his hand to stop the door. His hand went right through the pane. Cut his finger and thumb, but sliced him open on the wrist side about 3-4 inches long and filleted it open about an inch. Barely scraped above the protective coating where the tendons and nerves are. Soooo, one emergency room visit and lots of stitches later, I have him here at home. Ladies, this could have been so very much worse, even deadly. I am terrified beyond belief. Anyhow, the good news is it appears there is no permanent damage. He can move all fingers and make a fist. He's wrapped up and in a splint for now, we take him back to the ER on Sunday for them to look at the wound and make sure everything looks ok. I on the other hand am a complete mess, but trying not to let him see it. I'm super proud of him though, he did everything we've taught him and handled himself very well during the whole thing. First thing he told me when I came rushing in was "I'm ok Mom, don't panic, I'm ok". He still is handling it well and hasn't been upset other than they told him no hockey for at least 2 weeks, maybe more depending on how's he's feeling. I'm a lucky mom with a very lucky boy, praise God it wasn't worse. Pray that he doesn't hurt and heals quickly and that his mom regains some sanity.
It's the middle of the night and he's sleeping well. He had some pain over the evening but a couple of Tylenol took the edge off for him. He's amazing me in so many ways with this whole episode. Me, well obviously I'm struggling with this a bit. God is good though, I know that a very special little guardian angel named Jenn was watching after her big brother yesterday.
We took this picture of him, and we'll take more. We'll have to get some pix of the stitches when we're allowed to change the dressing. We've got to figure a way to shower him later without getting it wet. I think I'll make it easy and at least wash his hair in the kitchen sink.
Hug your loved ones! Hugs from me to all.
